I teach in a university in England where more than 50% of our students are non-english. We often get accused of racism, particularly when a student does badly in exams.
I find this difficult, because my only interest is imparting knowledge to everyone equally and I only consider a student to be bad if he/she is lazy and can't be bothered to work.

Thank you for teaching...please don't give up...people don't know the definition of racism so they call everything and everyone racist. You as a teacher may not be racist. However, racism is a system of oppression and that system had been built into the treatment of students by school systems. Some schools recieved more funding, better books and could afford to pay teachers better than others. This leads to a disparity in the learning enviornment for students. This is something the teacher can not control and most work around. Sorry you get lumped in with the bad feelings people have and don't know where to righly place. Thus you get accused of being racist. Don't take it personal and please consider the source.

It is horrid how we as humans tend to have a need to label people. I am sorry that teachers are not appreciated more by everyone. It would be wonderful if we could pay our teachers what they are worth.

Racism seems to be a handy excuse for some who are looking for excuses. However, racism shouldn't be denied because it is used in such a way.

Teachers can be placed in precarious positions by the nature of their profession. They may be accused of favoritism, sexism, racism etc. But when they are confronted in this manner, they seem to do well when they consider the source and the truthfulness of the charges and deal accordingly.

There is no dening people make false charges of those in authority for their benefit and vice versa. How are things going for you now?
