Do people first start to think of black and white when the word racism comes up? I am Native American myself and I think that there is racism to and from ones like me and other races. I'm not full-blooded indian, i also have a large amount of white also. I'm not racist and I try to stop racism in my school. For english we are working in that area and have to do a report on it. I choose Native American Racism to try to let others see in a different perspective.. did I make the right decision??

Tyna,
thanks so much for coming here for information concerning your topic on Native American Indian Racism. Of course, i admit to being biased regarding this subject and i think it is a good chose for your topic for your paper.
Whenever i approach a topic such as this, i try to define my terms. I used this definition for racism- a system of oppression for a social purpose...the original purpose of racism was to justify slavery and it's enormous economic benefits...for this website.
The use of the term race is a new term. People of all colors are in all cultures and nationalities of man. There are indigenous people all over the world. Many of them are lumped under the lazy term "Indian" but the indian word denotes first or primary people...first nations. No matter what is done the truth remains the same.
You made a statement in your question of your mixed blood....all humans are mixed and it is impossible for any of us to claim we are pure blood from any nation. Also, Indian children were ripped constantly from their parents, their language, their history , their culture by intention and deliberate genocide.
You can find an exploration of this topic in my book in a piece called 'Pow Wow'.
Good luck and let us know what grade you get on your paper.
aha
